Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I make an appointment?
Call 313-516-2622, and schedule a day and time that's convienent for you!
A $50 deposit is required, which goes towards the cost of the job and is refundable with 24 hours cancellation notice.
Julie takes pay pal, credit card, or cash only. No personal checks.

Why do I need an appointment?
Just like going to the mechanic, there are usually other jobs scheduled, and you may not get in right away, there could be others in line ahead of you.
Appointments ensure that you get ALL the attention and focus on YOUR job, not someone else's.

Why do I need to make a deposit?
A $50 appointment booking deposit ensures that your time is reserved just for you.
Appointments and jobs are taken in order of who makes them.
Rush jobs *can* be done, but there is an additional rush job fee IF other person's appointments can be rescheduled.

Is my deposit refundable if I need to cancel?
Yes, your deposit can be refunded with 24 hours or more cancellation notice.

How much will it be?
Julie's rate list is HERE.

Will Julie copy a design I got off the internet?
No. Stealing other people's work is wrong. Copyright infringement is against the law. Julie's website has examples of her style, work, and ideas; if you want someone else's work copied, google stickers.

Will Julie make house calls?
Does your doctor make house calls? (No, your doctor doesn't, and neither does Julie unless you want to pay EXTRA, and even then, probably not, most home environments are NOT suitable conditions for her to paint.)
A controlled environment ensures a high quality job. Insurance requirements also play a factor, as does time managment.
There is also the substantial extra cost of travel time and mileage.
Everyone's time is valuable, including Julie's. She makes very, very few exceptions. Ask, but expect a likely no.

How long does it take to have my car pinstriped after I drop it off at our appointment time?
Anywhere from three to six hours; (motorcycles can longer, depending on how complex the design gets and how many parts/areas are being painted)
think of it like dropping it off at the shop to have your brakes done - it takes time to do the job, and time for the paint to dry enough for you to drive it home. Please make sure you allow for adequate time for design decisions, painting, as well as drying. You don't want a job that's rushed, and neither does Julie!

Can I wait and watch Julie paint my vehicle?
Not recommended, Julie does not have public accomoations in her shop area. Please plan on dropping off, and getting a ride. Julie will call you when it's finished and ready for pick up.

Can I supply my own paint?
No. If you need a custom color to match, discuss it with Julie, she can order special paint or mix it to match.

Can Julie pinstripe in the rain?
Yes/No. Your appointment should ideally be rescheduled, usually for the next day. The paint doesn't play well in high humidity.

If I want extra work done will it be included in the original price?
No. Extra work = extra cost, extra time, extra materials. Add ons will be charged accordingly.

Can I drive it home right away?
Yes

Is a personal check ok to pay with?
No, Julie takes credit cards, pay pal, or cash only, and payment is due upon pickup.
Panels, and other miscellaneous goods, or anything left overnight to be painted, require a 50% deposit at time of drop off.
Payment in full is required at pick up.

How long should I wait to wax new pinstripes?
At LEAST one month! Paint needs to breathe to "dry" (off gas), especially when it's drying and curing.

When can I clearcoat over pinstripes?
Either do it within 24 hours if One Shot was used (with hardener) or wait a month to avoid blushing or lifting.

Does Julie remove pinstripes?
No, but YOU can: If they've just been applied within the last day or two, mineral spirits or reducer on a rag will wipe them right off,
also can removing flat non-automotive paint, too, so be careful and do a test in an inconspicuous area first!
If they've been on for longer, spray some Easy Off Oven Cleaner, Fume Free version, on a clean rag and gently wet the stripes and let it soak in for a minute or two,
depending how old the stripe is, it may take longer, check often by gently wiping off and if necessary, repeat.
NEVER use a buffing wheel or razor blade as either can, and likely will, damage the underlying paint job!
Remember, you do anything yourself at your own risk!
Professionals are called that for a reason, and they're worth consulting and paying for their expertise! Again, Julie does NOT remove pinstripes, nor anything else from any vehicle!

I have a Corvette, will Julie pinstripe it?
No. You want a sticker, google it. Julie paints by hand, she's not a machine, and it is impossible for a human to paint perfectly.

I have a Harley, can I measure and use a level to make sure Julie's lines are perfect?
You want a sticker, google it. Julie paints by hand, she's not a machine, and it is impossible for a human to paint perfectly.

Should I worry I won't get good work because Julie can't paint perfectly?
If the work on this site can't convince you that Julie does good work, google how to get stickers.

Does Julie apply vinyl?
No. Julie paints, with a brush, which is why there are no examples of vinyl, nor airbrushing, on her car art pages. Only paint from a brush.
